Daily Newspaper Statistics
Table 19.01 provides data on Myanma and English daily newspapers
circulating throughout the country. The data are obtained
from the News and Periodicals Enterprise.
Published Books by Type
All printers and publishers are required to register under
the Printers and Publishers Registration Law 1962 for their
work. They have also to submit regular information on books,
magazines etc. published, to Press Scrutiny and Registration
Office. The data on publication of books in the private sector
are classified in Table 19.02 under nine subjects and obtained
from the General Administration Department, Ministry of Home
Affairs.
Activities of Sarpay Beikman Public Library
Data on the number of borrowers, books circulated and accession
are shown in Table 19.03.
National Library Statistics
The function of the National Library is to supply documents
and papers required by Government Agencies and also to supply
other materials required by the students of Higher Education
for references for their term papers. From 1984 onward, the
library is open to the public. Data on library access are
shown in Table 19.04.
Cinema Statistics by State and Division
Cinema statistics are obtained from the Motion Picture Enterprise.
Cinema statistics relate to the number of cinema halls functioning
in the country and exclude cinema halls under private operation.
Table 19.05 provides data showing the total number of cinema
houses by state and division and number of seats by admission
rates for each class of seat.
Video Statistics
Myanma Television and Video Act has been laid down in 1985
according to the Pyithu Hluttaw Act, Act No.12 and amended
in 1996. Video statistics are obtained from the Motion Picture
Enterprise under the Ministry of Information. Table 19.06
shows the total number of video editing, filming, production,
duplication, distribution, exhibition, rental and karaoke
by State and Division wise.
