XXII. HOUSEHOLD EXPENDITURE
In November 1997, household income and expenditure
survey was conducted by the Central Statistical Organization,
covering 45 sample townships in States and Divisions. A sample
of 25470 urban and rural households was selected, using a
stratified three-stage sample design.
In October 2001, household income and expenditure survey
was again conducted with a sample size of 30,000 urban and
rural households in 75 sample townships. The same method used
in 1997 survey was employed in 2001 survey.
Integrated household living conditions survey was conducted
by the Planning Department of the Ministry of National Planning
and Economic Development in collaboration with the Central
Statistical Organization with the financial assistance of
UNDP and the technical assistance of the IDEA International
Institute in 2004-2005. The total number of households interviewed
in the first round (November 2004) is 18660 and the sample
size of 18635 households were interviewed in the second round
(May 2005), using multi-stage random selection based on probability
proportional to size.
Survey results on monthly household expenditure are presented
in this chapter, showing the Union, State and Division. Table
22.01 shows monthly household expenditure by group for the
Union as a whole and by State and Division, while Table 22.02
and 22.03 provide monthly household expenditure by group for
urban and rural households.
