XXII. HOUSEHOLD EXPENDITURE
In 2006 Household Income and Expenditure
Survey was conducted by the Central Statistical Organization
(CSO) in 80 sample townships in seventeen states and divisions.
Household expenditures are classified into two major groups.
Food and Beverages and Non-food. Food and Beverages group
includes 16 sub-groups and Non-Food group for 17 sub-groups.
The survey is intended to study the level and pattern
of expenditures of households in urban and rural areas and
derive base weights for computing consumer price index.
A sample of 32,000 urban and rural households was selected
using a three-stage stratified random sampling. First-stage
sampling was based on township. Second-stage unit was wards
and village tracts and the third-stage unit was a household.
The sample households were selected by simple random sampling
from the list of households in each sample ward and village
tract.
Table 22.01 shows monthly household expenditure
by State and Division and table 22.02 reveals food and non-food
expenditure break down in urban and rural households.
